Yesterday I was playing around on the internet and I found a blog that interested me. It was about Jen Scheff who was on the reality TV show the Bachelorette last season. I used to love the Bachelor and the Bachelorette and she ruined it for me. Scheff ended her engagement with Andrew Firestone from the Bachelor and then on the Bachelorette turned down two proposals from two fabulous guys at the end of the season.
However, the blog I ran across was not about her in the Bachelorette or Bachelor. Scheff was hired this month by Weber Shandwick. Weber Shandwisk is a giant Public Relations firm and Scheff was hired to work in their Chicago office. They said she was not hired because of her celebrity status but rather for her qualifications. But they still stated “Jen is pop culture and understands what it’s all about.”
Scheff is going to be working on the Unilever account. Unilever has been recently getting attention for using reality in advertising. It seems Scheff and Unilever have a lot in common.
Of course this interested me because of the obvious fact that I am go into the public relations field. Although Scheff is not my favorite reality TV celebrity, I still would love to follow in her footstep of her professional career. Before she was recently hired at Weber Shandwisk, she worked at Rockit Ranch Productions as an event planned which is my dream job.
I am curious to know if she wasn’t a reality celebrity would have that affected her chances during her interview process. I know they said it did not affect it but then when she was hired they assigned her to a “reality†advertisement account.

It was a sad and pathetic commentary on PR that she was hired. Either the Chicago office of WS was desperate for people or press, but either way, I was embarassed.
